Infineon Technologies has recently announced that it will supply security chips for Taiwan’s e-passport initiative. As the sole provider of these critical components, Infineon has already started delivering its SLE78 series security chips, which are powered by the advanced "Integrity Guard" digital security technology. Since 2008, Taiwan has been issuing approximately one million e-passports annually, and the total number of holders now exceeds 23 million. These passports are valid for ten years and comply with the latest ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standards for travel documents. This marks Infineon’s second major project in Taiwan involving its security chip technology. Previously, the company supplied over 25 million security chips for electronic medical cards across various healthcare projects in the region. Carsten Loschinsky, Vice President of Infineon Technologies and Head of the ID Card Business Line within the Chip Card and Security Division, stated, “The successful bid for Taiwan’s new e-passport program reinforces Infineon’s position as a trusted leader in secure identity solutions. Our 'Integrity Guard' technology is the preferred choice for electronic passports and other ID documents worldwide, offering robust data protection that meets even the most stringent security requirements.” With the increasing use of electronic identity documents such as passports, medical cards, and driver’s licenses, security chips have become essential. These chips help prevent fraud, ensure data integrity, and enhance user convenience. Infineon provides security chips for e-passport programs in several large countries, including the U.S., Brazil, China, and India. Additionally, more than 90% of electronic ID projects in Europe rely on Infineon’s technology, including Germany's e-health card system. Long-lasting e-passports require strong data protection to prevent unauthorized access or tampering. Unlike traditional analog security methods, Infineon’s "Integrity Guard" technology offers advanced encryption and dual-processor verification to safeguard personal information. The system ensures that all data is both stored and processed securely, with real-time checks to detect and stop any suspicious activity. At the SDW conference in London from May 21 to 23, 2013, Infineon showcased its comprehensive range of security chips for electronic ID cards. The company continues to lead in security, contactless communication, and microcontroller solutions, supporting applications like mobile payments, system security, and reliable electronic identity documents. For over 25 years, Infineon has been at the forefront of hardware-based security innovation, maintaining a dominant global market position for 15 consecutive years. With a strong presence in the semiconductor industry, Infineon remains committed to advancing security in an increasingly connected world. Infineon Technologies AG, based in Neubiberg, Germany, offers semiconductor and system solutions addressing three key challenges of modern society: energy efficiency, mobility, and security. In fiscal year 2012, the company achieved sales of 3.9 billion euros and employed approximately 26,700 people globally. Infineon is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the U.S. over-the-counter market. The company entered the Chinese market in 1995 and has since grown rapidly, establishing its first facility in Wuxi in 1996. With over 1,300 employees in China, Infineon plays a vital role in driving its Asia-Pacific and global business. The company has developed a full industrial chain in China, covering R&D, production, sales, marketing, and technical support, and collaborates closely with leading domestic companies and academic institutions in technology development and talent cultivation.
