This week, areas such as Northeast China, Central China, and South China have shown steady performance, with no major changes in transaction prices. In Hebei and Shandong, however, a downward trend continued from last week, with prices dropping by around RMB 30 per ton. Despite this, the overall stability of Shandong’s market was maintained, with local areas like Linfen and Weifang remaining relatively close to previous levels.
The recent price adjustments made by large steel companies have also led to a slight decline in market activity, with steelmakers adopting a cautious approach. The coke market in Anhui and Xuzhou remains weak but stable following the holiday period, though the short-term price direction is still unclear. Market participants are currently in a wait-and-see mode, especially as demand remains subdued.
With the end of the destocking phase for steel mills, expectations for a strong May in the coke market have not materialized as anticipated. As a result, the short-term outlook for the coke market is likely to remain weak but stable, particularly in the mainstream markets. Some regions may continue to see downward pressure due to the latest price cuts, which could lead to further declines in specific areas.
Current reference prices reflect this mixed picture. In Shanxi, the mainstream secondary metallurgical coke factory tax price stands at 1,200–1,230 yuan per ton, while first-grade metallurgical coke is priced between 1,230–1,280 yuan per ton. In Hebei, the secondary metallurgical coke price has dropped to 1,330 yuan per ton, with Tangshan's first-grade coke ranging from 1,410–1,450 yuan per ton (to the factory). In Xingtai, first-grade metallurgical coke is priced at 1,380–1,410 yuan per ton, while Tangshan’s first-grade coke factory price ranges from 1,480–1,530 yuan per ton.
In Henan, the market remains stable, with two-grade metallurgical coke at 1,300 yuan per ton and quasi-grade coke at 1,350 yuan per ton. In parts of Shandong, where prices have recently declined, the mainstream two-grade coke is now priced between 1,350–1,380 yuan per ton, while quasi-grade coke is at 1,450 yuan per ton, all ex-factory tax. In the Northeast, the market remains stable, with two-grade coke at 1,420–1,450 yuan per ton and first-grade coke at 1,520–1,550 yuan per ton.
