Affected by the downturn in the global shipping market, China's shipping companies have difficulties in delivering ships and making profits difficult. However, the shipbuilding industry has exerted its strength against the trend, releasing positive signals such as the backbone of the company's growth against the trend, the steady improvement of high-end design capabilities, and the intelligentization of manufacturing models. It is estimated that by 2020, China will initially realize the transformation from a shipbuilding power to a shipbuilding power. Shortly after the delivery of the largest container ship in China, “Dafei Vasco Da Gama”, China State Shipbuilding Industry Group has been in the field of ultra-large container ship manufacturing. Another good result: signed a large container ship with China Shipping Container Lines Co., Ltd., with a total cost of 5.7 billion yuan.
In the first half of the year, in the difficult environment of the external market, China's shipbuilding industry completed 18.53 million DWT, a year-on-year increase of 6.3%. However, affected by the global shipping market downturn and the continuous decline in oil prices, the orders for newly accepted ships have fallen sharply, the offshore engineering equipment market has shrunk significantly, and the problems of difficult delivery and profitability are outstanding.
"Under the situation that the demand for new ships has fallen sharply, the state has intensively introduced a series of industrial policies to support the development of the shipbuilding industry. The pace of structural adjustment of the shipbuilding industry has accelerated, and the comprehensive competitive advantage has improved against the trend. It has withstood various difficulties and tests." Department of Equipment Industry, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Director Zhang Xiangmu said in an interview with reporters that by 2020, China will initially realize the transformation from a shipbuilding power to a shipbuilding power.

Backbone companies fight against the trend
Since the beginning of this year, China's shipbuilding industry has faced a more severe market test. According to statistics, in the first half of the year, China's orders for new ships were 11.19 million DWT, down 72.6% year-on-year. "Since the international financial crisis, the international market share of China's new ship acceptance has declined for the first time," said Jin Peng, secretary-general of the China Shipbuilding Industry Association.
In fact, the entire international shipping market was in the doldrums in the first half of the year, and global new ship sales fell by more than half. However, China's key shipbuilding enterprises have shown their advantages in adversity, delivered ships smoothly, and vigorously developed new ship types, seized orders in the international market, and took the lead in fierce market competition.
The concentration of China's shipbuilding industry has further improved, and the optimization of industrial organization has achieved initial results. According to statistics, in the first half of the year, the top 10 enterprises in the national shipbuilding completion volume accounted for 57.5% of the national total, an increase of 6.9 percentage points over the end of 2014; the top 10 enterprises that took orders for new ships accounted for 75.4% of the national total. Compared with the end of 2014, it has increased by nearly 20%, forming a group of internationally competitive backbone enterprises of marine engineering equipment.
At the same time, from the perspective of ship-loading capacity of ship supporting equipment, China has been able to meet the demand for more than 80% of the supporting equipment for bulk carriers, oil tankers and container ships. In recent years, key ship supporting enterprises have increased scientific and technological research and development, strengthened product development and market expansion, and made breakthroughs in independent brand supporting products, and their ship supporting capacity has been significantly improved.
"At present, the international shipping market is still at a low level in the industrial adjustment cycle. It will take some time to digest excess capacity." Zhang Xiangmu said that the demand structure of the shipbuilding industry will change significantly in the future, and the demand for conventional ship types such as bulk carriers is weak, and marine engineering equipment and equipment are high. Technical ships will become a hot spot for future market demand.

High-end design capability enhancement
At the end of June, the 37,000-ton asphalt ship, designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute and built by AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Co., was successfully launched. This is the world's largest independent tank-type asphalt ship, marking China's leading level in the field of special tanker design.
Zhang Xiangmu pointed out that high-tech ships and offshore engineering equipment are the high-end of the shipbuilding value chain and the focus of the future development of China's shipbuilding industry. Fortunately, at present, the design and construction capabilities of high-end products in China's shipbuilding industry have been significantly enhanced, and product transformation has achieved remarkable results.
The main forces of the world's shipbuilding industry will remain China, South Korea and Japan, and high-end design and technological innovation are undoubtedly the key elements of future competition. "By 2025, the international market share of China's independent research and development, design and construction of major offshore engineering equipment and high-tech ships will reach 40% and 50% respectively, and some areas of design and manufacturing technology must reach international leadership." Zhang Xiangmu said.

Manufacturing model is becoming smart
In the hull workshop of Jiangsu Nantong COSCO Kawasaki Ship Engineering Co., Ltd., the robot constantly waved its arms, and under the spark of the splash, the steel was cut into various shapes and automatically classified. It is understood that most of the company's workshops have been automated, the steel plate recycling rate is over 95%, and the automated production line has increased the production efficiency of the corresponding process by about 70%.
“The shipbuilding industry is developing towards intelligent design, product intelligence, management refinement and information integration.” Zhang Xiangmu said that the world's shipbuilding powers have already proposed the goal of building a smart shipyard. “Made in China 2025” also proposed to comply with The new trend of world shipbuilding competition and ship science and technology development, with the promotion of digital, network and intelligent manufacturing as a breakthrough, continuously improve the level, quality and efficiency of the development of the shipbuilding industry.
"On the other hand, the cost of labor in China has risen rigidly. Compared with Japan and South Korea, the advantages have gradually disappeared, and it has forced the transformation and upgrading of China's shipbuilding industry and vigorously developed intelligent manufacturing." Jin Peng said.
Guo Dacheng, president of China Shipbuilding Industry Association, said that intelligent manufacturing has strategic significance for China's shipbuilding industry. The shipbuilding industry should strengthen research on intelligent manufacturing technology and accelerate the process of shipbuilding intelligence.
