As early as 2006, Zhejiang and Fujian police jointly investigated a case of cloning a bank card and stealing funds from the card.

In July 2006, a Jiangxi victim who worked in Jinjiang reported to the police that the bank card of 12.6 million yuan had disappeared. His bank card and password had been kept in good condition and showed no signs of leakage. The Jinjiang police investigation found that the amount of the victim's card was transferred to 11 other bank cards, and a total of 110,000 yuan was transferred. Criminals took one night to take away all the money. The holders of 11 bank cards are unaware of what happened.
