"This is becoming a trend," he explained, "but for now, most companies are trying to keep their pricing unchanged to manage costs. This is quite a challenge for survival and reflects the resilience of these businesses."
Zhang Hong, General Manager of Seth Wood, echoed similar sentiments. He mentioned that while labor costs have indeed risen, the prices for temporary furniture products have remained stable. Xu Meihua, head of the Creative Design Department, was optimistic about the future, predicting a potential 15-20% increase in labor costs by the end of 2013. She stated, "Consumers who hire casual workers might notice the change first, but those working with established decoration firms may see more stability in pricing."
When it comes to major components like flooring, cabinets, and sanitary ware, the outlook is even more pronounced. Ding Wenyang, General Manager of the Puleme Business Unit, highlighted that resource protection measures have led to price hikes in these sectors. For instance, bathrooms might see a 5-10% increase early next year.
Xu Meihua added that since the start of the year, both raw material and labor costs have surged significantly. Rising fuel prices have also impacted logistics costs for construction materials, leading to a 10-15% increase in items like paint and coatings. Flooring and wooden products have seen an approximate 10% jump compared to last year, resulting in a cumulative increase of nearly 15% across floors, wooden doors, kitchen cabinets, and furniture.
Given these trends, how should consumers navigate their renovation needs? Ms. Chu, planning her spring renovation, expressed confusion over whether to lock in products now or wait until next year. She wondered if setting the product choices early would be premature.
To help consumers, many decoration companies have introduced "New Year's renovation services" or special promotions before the end of the year. This provides an opportunity for those planning renovations next year to secure favorable terms now and avoid future price increases.
Ding Wenyang advised consumers to consider purchasing key materials like flooring, cabinets, and sanitary ware early in the year. Accessories, on the other hand, can be bought closer to renovation time, as their smaller price increments have less impact on the total budget. He illustrated this point by calculating that a toilet priced at 2,000 yuan could see a modest increase of 200 yuan, while larger items like flooring and cabinets would experience a more noticeable rise.
