A worker in Xiamen accidentally stepped on the body and pierced her body with a steel bar
On April 9th, a construction worker found himself in a life-threatening situation in a dense "jungle" of steel bars. He was hanging upside down, his body impaled by multiple rebar rods, with his hands gripping tightly to a steel pipe overhead.
Rebar Worker Hanging Half-Empty
At 2:46 pm, a construction site on Yuxiu East Road became the scene of an emergency. A worker had been pierced by steel bars during scaffolding work and was left suspended in mid-air. Firefighters from a special rescue team arrived quickly to assist in the operation.
The construction site was a maze of steel pipes and scaffolding, making movement extremely difficult. The area was packed with metal structures, creating a dangerous environment that required careful navigation.
The injured man was hanging upside down, with steel bars piercing his abdomen and left hip. His face showed signs of pain, but he managed to keep his grip on the overhead steel pipe. Below him, several workers used their bodies and wooden planks to create a temporary support structure, trying to prevent further injury.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting tools to carefully remove the steel bars from the worker’s body. They then transported him out using a stretcher, navigating through the tight and cluttered space.
The path to safety was not easy. The site was filled with obstacles, and every step had to be taken with caution to avoid causing more harm. A gap of over one meter high was discovered, with only a narrow plank less than a meter wide available for passage.
Each firefighter helped by supporting a makeshift "hand bridge" made of wooden boards, ensuring the injured worker could be safely moved to the ground. He was then handed over to emergency medical staff from 120.
Firefighter "Master Knife" in the Operating Room
Later that afternoon, the injured worker was taken to Zhongshan Hospital for surgery. Firefighters were called in to assist the medical team in the operating room.
At 4:30 pm, doctors requested help to cut the steel bars protruding from the worker’s back to allow for proper surgical access. The firefighters, equipped with surgical gloves and protective gear, worked under the supervision of the medical team.
Using hydraulic shears, they carefully removed the steel rods from the patient’s back, enabling the surgeons to proceed with the operation. The worker, who is 32 years old and originally from Xiamen, was working on the first floor when he accidentally stepped into an open space, leading to the accident. The exact cause is still under investigation.
