A worker in Xiamen accidentally stepped on the body and pierced her body with a steel bar
On April 9th, in a construction site that resembled a dense "jungle" of steel bars, a worker found himself in a life-threatening situation. He was hanging upside down from a metal bar, his arms stretched out and gripping tightly to stay upright.
Rebar Worker Hanging Half-Empty
At 2:46 pm, a construction worker on Yuxiu East Road suffered a severe accident when he was pierced by multiple steel rebars. A specialized fire rescue team rushed to the scene immediately for assistance.
The site was extremely hazardous, filled with tangled steel pipes and scaffolding that made movement difficult. The air was thick with tension as rescuers tried to reach the injured man who was suspended in mid-air.
The worker was pinned between two steel bars—one through his abdomen and another grazing his hip. His face showed signs of pain, but he remained conscious, holding onto a pipe above him. Below, several workers formed a temporary support structure using their bodies and wooden planks to prevent further injury.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting tools to carefully remove the steel bars that were trapping the worker. Once freed, they placed him on a stretcher and began the arduous task of transporting him out of the dangerous environment.
Navigating the site was no easy feat. The area was cluttered with obstacles, and every step had to be taken with caution to avoid causing more harm. A gap over one meter high blocked the path, and only a narrow plank less than a meter wide could be used for passage.
To overcome this challenge, firefighters and workers created a makeshift "hand bridge" using wooden boards, allowing the injured man to be safely carried to the ground and handed over to emergency medical personnel.
Firefighter "Master Knife" in the Operating Room
Later that afternoon, the injured worker was taken to Zhongshan Hospital for surgery. Firefighters arrived to assist the medical team in the operating room.
At 4:30 pm, doctors requested help to cut the steel bars protruding from the worker’s back so they could proceed with the operation. After donning surgical protective gear, firefighters used hydraulic shears under the guidance of the medical staff to carefully remove the remaining rebar.
The victim, a 32-year-old worker from Xiamen, was working on the first floor when he accidentally stepped into an opening. The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation.
