On March 21, 2014, the B2-K1018 "Double Grinding Wheel Follower CNC Crankshaft Grinder," developed and manufactured by Beijing No. 2 Machine Tool Works Co., Ltd., successfully passed the user acceptance test at Zhejiang Sun Co., Ltd. This milestone marked a significant achievement in China's high-end CNC machine tool industry.
The B2-K1018 is a cutting-edge machine that represents the culmination of research and development under several key national projects, including the 863 Program and the "High-Grade CNC Machine Tools and Basic Manufacturing Equipment" technology major project. It is designed for precision grinding of crankshaft connecting rod journals and main journals in automotive engines. Featuring dual grinding wheel frames, CBN high-speed grinding, and C-axis headstock synchronization, this machine integrates advanced international technologies, offering high efficiency, accuracy, and flexibility.
During its trial phase, the machine was used to grind crankshafts from various manufacturers such as SAIC, BAIC, and Geely, allowing for continuous improvement of the grinding process database and enhancing product reliability. In October 2012, it was officially deployed in Zhejiang Sun Co., Ltd.'s crankshaft production line, where it successfully processed engine crankshafts in large batches. After long-term testing on the production line, the machine’s precision and efficiency fully met the user's technical and production requirements, with some performance metrics even surpassing imported equipment.
By being introduced into domestic crankshaft production lines, the B2-K1018 not only enables Beijing No. 2 Machine Tool Works Co., Ltd. to provide complete grinding and polishing solutions for one of the key components of an automobile—the crankshaft—but also positions the company as the only Chinese manufacturer capable of supplying full production lines. This marks a major step toward self-reliance in critical automotive manufacturing processes.
The successful integration of this advanced technology into domestic production lines highlights the progress made by Chinese machine tool manufacturers in overcoming technological bottlenecks.
