Qingdao first motorcycle fire brigade 50 motorcycle fire extinguisher alarm

In the face of a narrow rural dirt road that is only 3 meters wide, fire trucks often struggle to reach the scene quickly during a fire. As a result, firefighters must park at the village entrance and carry water to the fire site. Despite modern firefighting equipment, many rural fires occur in kitchens or haystacks and are difficult to control. Yesterday, reporters learned from the Gaoxin District Public Security Fire Brigade that to address these challenges, the brigade has introduced an innovative solution: a team of "fire motorcyclists." More than 50 villagers from Hongdao and Hetao have been trained to become firefighters. These motorcyclists patrol fields and help protect over 40,000 residents across 17 natural villages in the High-tech Zone. Each motorcycle is equipped with a wind fire extinguisher and two dry powder fire extinguishers. On the morning of the visit, more than 20 motorcycles were lined up outside the Shaogezhuang Village Committee. Villager Han Deqing and 19 others looked at their new gear with excitement. Instructor Liu Wanzhong explained that these motorcyclists have undergone extensive training and now serve as both educators and frontline firefighters. "Compared to the police car, our fire truck is too large," said a firefighter. The idea of patrolling like the police was considered, but the high fuel cost and risk of blocking narrow roads made it impractical. Motorcyclists, on the other hand, can move freely and respond quickly. During the day, they stay close to home and are ready to tackle small fires before they spread. "In the early stages, a small fire can be put out on the spot. If it gets bigger, we call for help immediately," the firefighter added. Each rider carries a walkie-talkie, allowing them to alert others quickly if a fire breaks out. This teamwork ensures faster response times and better protection for the community. The "last 50 meters" are crucial in rural fire emergencies. At 11 a.m., the reporter observed a 3-meter-wide dirt road in front of Liu Aifang's house, with a narrow alley less than 2 meters wide. Fire engines, which are at least 2.5 meters wide, cannot pass through. In such cases, firefighters must travel over 50 meters to reach the fire. Liu Wanzhong emphasized that rural firefighting often relies on simple tools—like "millet plus rifles." Motorcycles allow firefighters to reach the scene quickly when traditional vehicles cannot. Most rural fires start in kitchens or haystacks, and the equipment on the bikes is sufficient to handle initial flames. "Fire trucks may get stuck on narrow roads at any time," Liu said. Testing showed that these motorbikes can save critical time—up to five minutes—which can make a huge difference in saving lives and property. More than 40,000 residents in the High-tech Zone now benefit from this initiative. The 50 motorcycle fire brigades in Hongdao and Hetao streets have actively engaged the community, encouraging people to participate in fire inspections and identify potential hazards.
