When installing a thrust bearing, it's crucial to ensure proper alignment and fit between its components. The cooperation between the shaft ring and the shaft is typically a transition fit, while the raceway and the housing hole usually have a clearance fit. This design makes installation easier and ensures smooth operation. To check the straightness of the axial line of the shaft ring and the shaft, you can use a dial gauge. Fix the dial gauge on the casing end face and touch the bearing raceway. If the pointer moves or wobbles, it indicates that the shaft centerline is not straight. For deeper housing holes, a long-stem dial gauge can also be used for accurate measurement. When the thrust bearing is correctly installed, the seat should allow the rolling elements to move freely within the raceways. If the installation is reversed, the bearing will not function properly, and the contact surfaces may wear out quickly. Since the difference between the shaft ring and the seat is minimal, careful attention must be given during installation to avoid errors. Additionally, there should be a gap of 0.2 to 0.5 mm between the thrust bearing seat and the housing bore. This small clearance allows for minor misalignments due to manufacturing tolerances or installation inaccuracies. It helps the bearing adjust itself during operation, preventing collisions and ensuring normal functioning. Without this gap, the bearing could suffer severe damage over time. Proper inspection and installation are essential to extend the life of a thrust bearing and maintain its performance. Always follow manufacturer guidelines and double-check all assembly steps before finalizing the setup.
