Ceramic Filter Press: Maintenance and Precautions

Proper maintenance and careful operation are essential for the efficient functioning of a ceramic filter press, especially when dealing with rare earth filters. Before commissioning the machine, a full inspection should be conducted at the start of each shift. All mechanical transmission components and the gear reducer must be adequately lubricated. The hydraulic system should be checked for oil levels and working pressure. It is recommended to replace the hydraulic oil annually, and during this process, the entire hydraulic system should be thoroughly cleaned. The operating pressure must stay below the maximum allowable pressure of the cylinder but not fall below the minimum filtering pressure. If the pressure is too low, it can cause significant leakage and potentially damage the unit.

It is strictly prohibited to operate the filter press if the number of filter plates is less than the required amount, as this can lead to mechanical damage. Before feeding material, ensure that the filter plates are properly arranged and that the filter cloth is not folded, which could result in excessive leakage. After unloading the cake, the filter plates must be tightly packed and aligned to maintain uniform pressure across the system.

Once everything is set, the filter plates can be pressed and the filtration process initiated. The filtration pressure and temperature must remain within specified limits. Excessive pressure may cause leaks, while high temperatures can lead to deformation of plastic filter plates. The slurry concentration should be consistent, with no impurities mixed in. After unloading, the filter cloth and filter plates must be thoroughly rinsed to prevent residue from sticking to the sealing surfaces or feed channels. This can affect the smooth flow of the material and the sealing performance of the plates, leading to uneven pressure distribution and potential damage to the filter plates.

When selecting filter cloth, it is crucial to ensure it meets the technical requirements of the filter media. New filter cloth should be pre-shrunk before use, and the diameter of the holes should be slightly smaller than those on the filter plates. The cloth should fit snugly against the plate walls to avoid issues like unclear filtration, reduced flow rate, or even tearing of the cloth. A proper fit ensures optimal filtration performance and avoids inefficiencies.
