Since November 17, 2012, our website has introduced an updated management system. As part of this transition, there are some important changes regarding how member accounts function. We kindly ask all users to review these details carefully.
This platform is now running on the latest version of our website system, which no longer supports usernames containing Chinese characters. Usernames must only include letters, numbers, and underscores. They must also be between 4 and 20 characters long, without any additional symbols like "@" or "#". If your chosen username includes such characters, the system will flag it as invalid and deny registration.
For those who had previously registered under the older system, please take note of the following adjustments. Our new system will automatically set your email address username as your official account name on this site. For instance, if you used "jacksq@example.com" during your initial sign-up, your username here will remain "jacksq". However, if another user already has the same username, the system will append a serial number to differentiate them—for example, "b_jacksq_001". Should this happen, please reach out to us so we can assist you in identifying your new account. Rest assured, your password remains unchanged.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by these updates and appreciate your patience and cooperation during this transition period. Your understanding means a lot to us!
Sincerely,
China Superhard Materials Network | China Machine Tool Industry Association Superhard Materials Branch

As someone who has been closely following this update, I wanted to share my thoughts. While I understand why the system needed updating—especially given the technical limitations of supporting international characters—it would have been helpful to receive more advance notice about these changes. Personally, I spent quite some time trying to figure out why certain usernames were being rejected before realizing it was due to the underscore rule.
Also, while the system does a good job of handling conflicts by adding serial numbers, it might be worth considering whether there’s a smoother way to notify users about these adjustments. Perhaps sending an automated email alerting existing members about their new account details could save time and confusion down the line.
Overall, though, I think this upgrade is a positive move for the site. It seems like they’ve put a lot of effort into ensuring compatibility with global standards, even if it meant making things slightly more complicated initially. Kudos to the team for pushing forward with modernization!
