Spraying technique

The first technique in spraying is the correct way to hold the spray gun. The spray gun and the surface of the object being sprayed should be kept perpendicular. As you move the gun, the spray path should remain parallel to the surface. Each spray stroke should start with the trigger pulled, and it should be released before the stroke ends. The gun must be in motion before triggering, otherwise, it can cause uneven coating or excessive buildup in certain areas. Maintain a consistent distance between the gun and the workpiece throughout the process. The movement of the spray gun should be smooth and uniform, and each subsequent spray stroke should overlap the previous one by about 50% to 67%, as shown in Figure 8. This ensures an even coat and prevents streaks or marks. The distance between the spray gun and the surface is typically between 15 to 30 cm. If you want a darker, thicker, and more intense finish, the gun should be closer. For a lighter, drier, and thinner coat, you can increase the distance slightly. The angle of the spray gun relative to the surface and the speed at which it moves are also important. The gun should always be held at a right angle to the surface and moved in a straight, parallel line. The ideal speed for the gun is between 30 to 60 cm/s, and this speed must remain constant. If the gun is tilted or moved in an arc, or if the speed fluctuates, it may result in uneven paint thickness, streaks, or other imperfections. Moving too slowly (below 30 cm/s) can lead to sagging, while moving too quickly may cause thin spots or poor coverage. For optimal results, especially when high uniformity is required, the cross-spray method is recommended. This involves applying the first coat vertically and then the second coat horizontally, ensuring even distribution and a smoother finish.
