Japan has developed a technology to attach fine diamond particles to tools

Abstract Tokyo Diamond Tool Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has recently developed an advanced technology for attaching diamond particles with a diameter of several micrometers to cutting tools. This innovation includes a sophisticated diamond abrasive tool that features dozens of micron-sized particles on the tip opening area and a few micron-sized particles on the chamfered edges, significantly enhancing performance and precision.

The new technology utilizes an electroplating method known as "electrowinning" to securely fix diamond particles onto a metal surface. This approach allows for the use of smaller diamond particles—up to four times smaller than those used in previous products—which enables ultra-precise machining. Compared to traditional resin or metal-based grinding discs, this technology reduces production costs by approximately 50%.

Previously, diamond layers were limited to a single layer, but the new design incorporates multiple layers, greatly extending the tool’s lifespan. This advancement makes it ideal for processing hard and brittle materials like glass, where precision and durability are essential. Additionally, the new system eliminates the need for frequent tool replacements, increasing efficiency and reducing downtime.

A compact diamond particle grinding disc using this groundbreaking technology is set to launch soon, offering even more versatility and precision for industrial applications. This development marks a significant step forward in the field of high-performance diamond tools.
