Brown spot disease, commonly known as a rot and fruit drop disease by jujube growers, typically begins at the early stages of fruit development but can also affect the middle part of the fruit. The disease is closely associated with sucking insects, which introduce bacteria through their feeding. Rainy, humid, and hot weather further promotes the spread of this disease, making it more prevalent during these conditions.
To effectively prevent brown spot disease, farmers should combine orchard management practices with chemical control methods. One key strategy is to spray leaves before flowering to protect them from infection. After the flowers fall, it's essential to start spraying the fruits about halfway through the process, continuing for 10 to 15 days, with 3 to 4 applications being common. In severe cases, more frequent spraying may be necessary.
Commonly used chemical treatments include a 30% suspension of wettable powder at a dilution of 1000 to 1200 times, 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder diluted 1000 to 1200 times, 500g/L carbendazim suspension at 1000 to 1200 times, 80% mancozeb wettable powder diluted 800 to 1000 times, 77% dithianon wettable powder at 600 to 800 times, 60% thifluzamide wettable powder at 600 to 800 times, and a 1:2 to 3:200 to 240 Bordeaux mixture. These treatments should be applied according to the specific needs of the orchard and environmental conditions.
