In addition to being a teacher, Meng Yan is also an environmental volunteer. In her view, although professional data such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and PM2.5 can explain the problem, it is not as intuitive as the “digital mask”.

“Now it is the heating season in Jinan. There were already many people wearing masks at this time of the year. This year, people wearing masks were significantly less.” Meng Yan said.

Jining City is one of the “2+26” air pollution prevention and control channel cities in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. A pharmacy physician near a Chinese medicine hospital in Jining City told reporters that before the heating season began in previous years, all kinds of masks were already in short supply. However, this year, the air is much better, "pressing a lot of goods has not yet been sold."

Compared with the intuitive feelings of ordinary people, some enterprises have also obtained economic benefits from environmental governance. For example, Weiqiao Group and Xinfa Group have shut down the electrolytic aluminum production capacity of 3.225 million tons due to environmental protection, accounting for about 1/3 of the total production capacity of the company. However, due to the improvement of market supply and demand, the price of electrolytic aluminum has increased, and the production and operation of the company have not only failed. Affected, the benefits will be greatly increased.

Through pollution control, we solved the problems that the company had long wanted to solve without solving them, and achieved a win-win situation for environmental protection and economic growth. A middle-level manager of the Weiqiao Group said that in the first three quarters, the company’s sales revenue was 304.7 billion yuan and profits and taxes were 16.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.3% and 14.1%.

In the 23 square kilometers of land in the old industrial area of ​​eastern Jinan, more than 90 traditional heavy industrial enterprises such as iron and steel, metallurgy, and chemical industry were once gathered, and large and medium-sized ones were mostly present.

Hou Cuirong, director of the Jinan City Environmental Protection Bureau, said that now 40 companies have relocated and retired, and this year will also complete the suspension and relocation of 16 key industrial enterprises. Through unremitting efforts in the past two years, Shandong has achieved initial success. In the first three quarters of this year, Shandong's temperament reached the best level in the same period since 2013. Among them, the average number of days for "blue sky and white clouds and starry flashes" was 209.1 days, an increase of 14.3 days compared to the same period of the previous year; the average number of heavy pollution days was 11.8 days, a decrease of 1.8 days compared to the same period of last year; the proportion of days with good ambient air quality was average. This was 56.6%, an increase of 0.7% over the same period last year.
